Artoo accompained Qui-Gon Jinn and Padme Amidala to Mos Espa on Tatooine to gather spare parts. There he met the protocol droid, C-3PO, which Anakin Skywalker built for his mother. Their unique friendship would last for decades. Artoo returned to Naboo and served as onboard astromech for Skywalker as he attacked and eventually destroyed the Droid Control Ship.

The Sith agenda was only stalled, not defeated. However, Palpatine was elected Chancellor to replace his predescessor, Chancellor Valorum.
